Stress

There’s no doubt that the demands and pressures of modern life are a common theme in leading people to feel overwhelmed, depleted, and zapped of energy.

Stress can be caused by many things, including financial pressures, family responsibilities, work expectations, lifestyle choices and feeling like there is too much to do with limited time.

Not all stress is bad. In little bursts, it can be motivational and propel us towards action. However, when it becomes chronic or reaches high levels without reprieve, it can cause major problems in all areas of a person’s life. Coping styles, thought patterns, belief systems, a person’s external environment and support systems, family of origin and past trauma, stepping into parenthood, sleep hygiene, diet and physical activity (among many others), are all factors that can exacerbate and prolong stress.

As a therapist, I help you uncover the root causes of your stress, guiding you to explore and unpack what may be contributing to feelings of burnout and overwhelm. Together, we work on understanding your needs, clarifying your values, identifying limiting beliefs, and setting healthy boundaries—empowering you to create lasting change.

How We Help

Anxiety

If left untreated, anxiety can be exhausting and debilitating. It’s completely normal to experience sensations of heightened nerves, worry and apprehension.

When spiralling thoughts, worry, fear, or avoidance of social and work situations take over, I can help support you in navigating these challenges with a combination of tools, lifestyle interventions, therapies, and treatments tailored to your needs. Together, we explore the root cause of your anxiety—the ‘why’ behind it—so you can challenge limiting beliefs, shift unhelpful thinking patterns, and reduce irrational worries.

My approach integrates evidence-based techniques, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT or Tapping), Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), schema therapy, and mindfulness-focused stress reduction, to support you in navigating life’s challenges with greater ease and confidence

Grief and loss

Losing someone close to us is what we often think of when dealing with grief.

However, life situations such as the loss of a job and professional identity, relationship breakdown or the loss of a pet can all lead to grief. We can grieve over so many different things in life. It is part of being human.

Grief is a process and it takes time to work through. However, given the intensity of the emotion and its wave-like effect, many people may prefer to push it away and turn their attention outwards as a form of distraction. Because let’s face it: grief hurts and is extremely painful. However, if grief is not processed and moved through fully, it can show up in other ways that can negatively impact your health and wellbeing.

There is no set timetable for grieving and it is not a linear process. There are a number of stages that can be experienced differently and in various ways by individuals. It can take weeks, months or even years to move through grief, and even then, certain events, milestones or experiences can trigger the grief to return again.

Working together, I can help you to identify where you’re at in the grieving process to understand the ‘why’ behind what you’re feeling. I will hold space for you to express how you feel; to give yourself permission to grieve, and to open up to the range of feelings and experiences associated. Support and professional help can help you cope with the grief, and my role at Kokoro Psychology & Health is to do just that.
